Meeting in Porto - Portugal

A taste of Portugal. Racibórz four in Porto

From April 30 to May 6, students of Primary School No. 4 in Racibórz took part in fascinating Arduino programming classes as part of the Erasmus+ project "Discover robotic via Stem".

The partners in the project were students and teachers from: Turkey, Spain, Iceland, Ireland, Denmark and Portugal. The topic of the classes was to build and program a car that drives along any line. It turned out to be an interesting challenge, great fun and a valuable experience. The most exciting moment of the class was starting the programmed car. After uploading the code to the Arduino board, students eagerly watched the vehicle respond to commands. After overcoming initial problems, such as unstable driving or errors in line detection, thanks to patience, the instructor's help and cooperation, it was possible to refine the code and make the car move smoothly along the black line. These classes also showed how important cooperation and mutual help in learning are. By working together and exchanging ideas with other participants, we were able to solve problems faster and achieve better results.
Thanks to the courtesy of the lecturer, Dr. Andre Dias, the participants were able to visit the Polytechnic Institute at the Engineering School in Porto. At the Institute, everyone was fascinated by the sight of machines and robots designed by students.
Students and teachers also had a unique opportunity to participate in the National Robotics Festival 2024 in the city of Paredes de Coura. This event brought together robotics enthusiasts from all over Portugal. At the festival, you could watch the competition of robots that had to overcome complex obstacles and perform precise tasks.
In addition to fascinating Arduino programming classes, the trip organizers prepared an additional attraction that turned out to be extremely exciting: surfing lessons in the Atlantic Ocean. The very thought of riding the waves was exciting and thrilling. The first attempts to stay on the board were quite difficult. The waves of the Atlantic Ocean turned out to be stronger than we expected, and maintaining balance on the moving board required a lot of effort. After initial difficulties, we finally managed to catch the first waves. The feeling of gliding through the water on a board guided by the force of nature was amazing. Adrenaline pulsed in my veins and the joy of overcoming subsequent waves was indescribable. Although not everyone managed to stand on the board right away and keep their balance, everyone had a great time.
